Funding

How the government funding works?

As a setting, we are aware that the government funding can sometimes be hard to understand, and we are happy to help you with this process. The government offer two funding programmes. In simple terms, you are able to make the most of 15 and 30 hour funding where your child/children can be a part of our small homely setting exploring all of our fun, exciting, natural and educational activities.

Here at The Old Bank Day Nursery, we are able to offer you your funded hours plus any other hours you may require to fit your current circumstances.

The government advertise funding as “free childcare” and that this is 15 to 30 hours per week. As a parent you get to choose if you require your child/children to attend the setting all year round which is 50 weeks of the year and is stretched or 38 weeks of the year which is Term Time Only.

Term Time Only

We have limited term time only places available here at The Old Bank Day Nursery, and they are on a first come, first served basis. These places are only available on certain days and sessions. If you request term time only and the setting is able to accommodate this you will be able to receive the full 15 hours or 30 hours funding a week and the available session’s will be disused with you prior to starting.

Stretched

We offer nursery places for 50 weeks in which you are still able to use your funding, this will just be split between the weeks of the years. If you are entitled to 15 hours and require stretched funding, you will receive 11 hours per week. If you are entitled to 30 hours, you will receive 22 hours per week.

We find that stretched funding provides your child/children with consistency and routines all year round, school readiness and with working parents during their working hours.

How the two government funding programmes works:

Working Family Funded Childcare

From September, this scheme is for qualifying working parents and families can receive 30 hours of funded childcare for children age 9 months and over per week.

To qualify for this programme;

  • Parents should be working at least 16 hours per week

  • Earn less than £100,000 a year.

  • Parents can be on sick leave or parental leave to claim this.

  • You may still be eligible while claiming benefits.

You are able to check on the government website if you are entitled to funding as there may be some specific things which may affect your eligibility like your child’s exact age, where your child lives or your immigration status.

You can apply for this funding by visiting the government website: www.gov.uk/apply-30-hours-free-childcare

You must remember that with this scheme you MUST sign in to your HMRC childcare account and ensure you reconfirm to receive your eligibility code. If you do forget, then you will more than likely not get funding for the following term.

Universal Funded Childcare For 3-Year-Olds

This funding is for all 3 and 4-year-old children for 15 hours per week.

  • ALL 3 and 4-year-olds are eligible for this scheme there is no eligibility criteria, and you do not have to be working.

  • You may be eligible for 15 hours childcare at the same time as government schemes and incentives.

  • Some of our parents require their child to be with us for longer session’s then their funding allows, and The Old Bank Day Nursery offer non-funded hours to help fit around your schedules and circumstances.

Some 2-year-olds can sometimes be eligible for the universal funded childcare some eligibility requirements are;

  • The child has a guardianship or kinship order in place

  • The child is looked after child by the local authority

  • The child has Special Educational Needs (SEND)

  • The child has disability allowance

  • Parents are receiving certain benefits

If you need any support to apply, please do not hesitate to ask. Please bear in mind, you can only receive this funding the term AFTER your child’s 2nd or 3rd Birthday. For example, if your child turns 3 in June 2025 you would be eligible to claim this funding from September 2025. However, you must apply before your child’s birthday.

Please note that the amount of funding given to the setting for funded hours does not cover the full cost of your child/children’s hours or any of our enhanced provisions. The funding only covers the bare minimum of education for each child within your funded hours. Baring this in mind, we do ask parents to pay a small fee towards the costs alongside of your funded hours. Here at The Old Bank Day Nursery we provide high quality child care that we as a setting feel your child deserves which supports their future development and learning, and we are not happy to just offer the bare minimum basic care.

Our standard session rate includes our enhanced provision inclusively.

Enhanced provision:

Enhanced Provision – Meals, Snacks and Drinks

Here at The Old Bank Day Nursery, we do not allow children to bring packed lunches due to high complex allergies we have within the setting. Due to the Environmental health’s requirements of how food brought in should be stored, unfortunately we just do not have the storage capacity to accommodate for this.

Due to this, as part of our enhanced provision we do provide all homemade delicious food which is prepared by our fully trained nursery cook. We follow the Environmental health rules alongside maintaining the healthy eating guidelines set out by the DFE and Ofsted. This means all of our meals are nutritional balanced, extremely tasty and a desert with all meals. As a setting we provide Breakfast which is a choice of cereal and toast, snack, A lovely hot two-course lunch, snack and a two-course afternoon tea which following our 4 weekly menu can be hot or cold. We also provide milk and water throughout the day. Meal times are used to teach our children the essential life skills such as how to use their knife, forks and spoons, promoting and encouraging independence, table manners, self-services to support our fine motor skills and social skills with having our meals with our peers.

Enhanced Provision – Toiletries

We provide all nappies, wipes, toilet paper and tissues to help your child to feel clean and comfortable through their sessions. We can also work with you to support them with potty training, and building on their confidence and independence skills.

Enhanced Provision – Activities

Here at The Old Bank Day Nursery we believe all educational learning should be child led, fun and an exciting learning experience. This teaches your child essential life skills, which they require for the rest of their lives. We adhere to culture capital and the EYFS, to offer your child a variety of activities every day including trips to the park and within the local environment, parties and other cultural celebrations and experiences, preschool graduation, parent stay and plays, lots of paintings and pictures to come home and baking. The list does go on…..

We do have some “totally free” funded places available here at The Old Bank Day Nursery but as parents do not contribute to them this does have such a financial impact upon our setting therefore, we are very limited to these spaces. We do have a waiting list you are able to put your name down on. Unfortunately, none of our enhanced provisions are included within these places. We will provide a list of everything the enhanced provisions include and everything you will need to provide from home.
